In order to make a comeback in the Ashes, England pacer Mark Wood intends to pair up with teammate Jofra Archer, who is also returning from a protracted injury layoff. Wood is currently recuperating from his injury, while Archer has already been selected for England’s side for the second Test match against India.
During the Champions Trophy encounter against Afghanistan, Mark Wood suffered a knee injury. He is excited to play with Archer and has voiced optimism in his return to Test cricket.
I’m still holding out hope. We’re somewhat running our own race. There are plenty of other bowlers about, and he (Archer) is ready to depart now. I have a little while left.
According to Mark Wood, who was cited by SkySports, “I wouldn’t say it is definitely me and him pencilled in.”
“We must perform at our best, reach speeds of 90 mph or more, and provide the captain and the team with something.” When these guys are already on the team and performing well, it is no good to just expect to play. You must earn your place, and Jofra and I will undoubtedly work hard to do so,” Mark Wood continued.
The right-arm pacer insisted that their small race may ultimately determine the position in the red-ball setup, acknowledging the healthy rivalry between himself and Archer.
“Those performances must be given by all of us. Although playing with him would be wonderful, Wood stated that each of us must run our own race, catch up, and earn the spot.
In a Test match against the West Indies, both players participated together. If they are selected for the Ashes series, which starts on November 21, they will be playing Test cricket for the first time in five years, having not played since 2020.
