The London Spirit, a well-known franchise league team owned by the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), recently added former England captain Eoin Morgan to its board of directors. The Hundred, a new cricket competition, was presented to the world in 2021.
Under the leadership of Nikesh Arora, CEO of cybersecurity company Palo Alto Networks, a group of Silicon Valley tech entrepreneurs known as the Tech Titans have also joined the franchise as investors. The business paid £144.55 million for a 49 percent share in the franchise.
Eoin Morgan addition might be very beneficial because he has led the team in the tournament’s first two seasons.
Although the MCC has not yet selected its last director, they have nominated Rob Lawson, its chief executive and secretary, and incoming committee member Julian Metherell to the London Spirit board in addition to Eoin Morgan. Chair Mark Nicholas personally congratulated Metherell for his role in discussions following the Titans’ investment, in which he emerged as a pivotal factor during the investment process.
London Spirit’s performance in The Hundred
Although the London Spirit team has some well-known players, the men’s team has not yet taken home a championship. The franchise’s finest showing occurred in 2022, when they lost the eliminator match against the Manchester Originals and placed third in the competition. The team had two dismal seasons in a row.
Speaking of the women’s team, Heather Knight led the squad to its first championship the previous season. With 271 runs at an average of 45.16, Knight was the team’s top scorer. However, English leg-spinner Sarah Glenn took the most wickets with 13 at an average of 17.80 and an economy of 6.80.
