Sunil Gavaskar suggests replacing Shardul Thakur with Kuldeep Yadav for the second Test

According to the renowned Sunil Gavaskar, India should try to include Kuldeep Yadav in the squad for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy second Test match against England in Edgbaston, Birmingham. In the first Test, India decided to use just one spinner, Ravindra Jadeja. The decision didn’t work out, though, as the Saurashtra all-rounder bowled 47 overs and took just one wicket in the Test match.

Since the team management intends to control Jasprit Bumrah’s workload, it is almost certain that he will not participate in all five Test matches during the tour. Regardless of whether Bumrah plays in the second Test or not, Gavaskar believes Kuldeep ought to be in the playing XI at Edgbaston. Shardul Thakur may be the one to give way for the Uttar Pradesh spinner, the former India captain said, adding that the wrist spinner might receive some help from the pitch in Birmingham.

“I believe Kuldeep Yadav must join the team regardless of Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness. Gavaskar said in the post-match show, “I do think he should come into the team for Shardul Thakur because the Birmingham pitch will be one where there will be just a little bit of help for the wrist spinner.”

In addition, Sunil Gavaskar said that if either Sai Sudharsan or Karun Nair don’t play well in the second Test, India might try to replace them with Washington Sundar.

If the second Test doesn’t go well, perhaps Karun (Nair) and Sai (Sudharsan). Right now, I don’t want to let them go. In order to give you a more reliable batting and a bit more variation in the bowling, I would then also consider Washington (Sundar), he said.

On Day 5 of the first Test, England overcame a 371-run mark thanks to a scorching century from Ben Duckett. Ben Stokes and Jamie Smith made vital contributions to help the Three Lions pull off a historic victory, and Joe Root and Zak Crawley also struck significant half-centuries.
