Najmul Hossain Shanto, the captain of Bangladesh, is in the news because of increasing rumours concerning his future as the Test captain.
But when it comes to answering questions about his leadership position, Najmul Hossain has chosen to be careful.
Najmul Hossain was cautious not to say anything that might cause the players to lose focus before the second Test match against Sri Lanka, but he did not rule out the idea of resigning after the current Test series. His answer implies that he wants to maintain a steady team atmosphere as they try to keep the series moving forward.
That conversation has existed since before the start of the series. Let’s talk about his future as captain of the Test team. I don’t wish to discuss this. I want to concentrate on the Test match in two days and play both as a batter and as captain. According to Cricbuzz, the Southpaw said, “Let the conversation be a conversation.”
Najmul Hossain, who set a record with two hundred runs in the Galle Test, acknowledged that he was not waiting for the right moment to resign as captain but promised that any choice he makes will benefit the team.
“The final Test match would have been the highlight, and I could have said something after hitting consecutive hundreds as captain. The goal is to take action that will benefit the team, but for the time being, there is no need to discuss it extensively, and everyone is asked not to raise unnecessary concerns. Since it is a crucial Test match and I hope we can perform well in the Test series, there needs to be debate or criticism,” the star batter continued.
The Rajshahi native continued by admitting that it was challenging to lose the captaincy suddenly. According to him, these kinds of conversations ought to happen prior to the squad’s announcement rather than during a series.
“It’s difficult, and it should not be the case and this kind discussion (removing captaincy) should not be before any Test match or rather for any format and I would think this kind of discussion should take place at least seven or eight days (before announcing any squad) and the earlier, the better, but we are all professional players and would see how we can contribute in that position,” the Bangladeshi player said about the subject.
The 26-year-old had to miss Monday’s training in Colombo after hurting his finger while making slide catches during practice. He has previously played despite discomfort in Galle, and this is the second time he has been hit in the finger. The Bangla Tigers are hoping that the finger injury won’t prevent him from playing in the second Test, which is set to start on June 25 at the Sinhalese Sports Club ground in Colombo.
