Sunil Gavaskar, a former opening batsman for India, said KL Rahul a true team player who has taken wickets for his country in all formats when called upon. In the current first Test at Headingley, Leeds, the Karnataka player has scored 42 and 47 not out thus far, giving him a strong start to the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
Rahul appeared to be in outstanding form on Day 3, hitting seven boundaries to end the day undefeated at 47 off 75 balls. On Sunday, June 22, his promising knock put India ahead by 96 runs at 90/2. In the first inning, he had a chance to turn his start into a significant score, but he lost it. As India attempts to give the hosts a lofty goal, the 33-year-old would like to capitalise on his second innings start and smash a big score on Day 4.
According to Gavaskar, KL Rahul hasn’t been able to reach his full potential thus far.
KL Rahul would concur with this evaluation as well, the former captain of India said.
“A true team player. Even keeping wickets has been requested of him. You want a team that does that, and he does it for the team. You can observe how he responds to the circumstance. He exudes a calmness that is really uncommon in this day and age, when everyone must take action to demonstrate that they have accomplished something. His celebrations are equally subdued. Regarding KL Rahul, everyone admits that he is unaware of his skill as a player. He would, after all, concur,” Gavaskar remarked.
He is incredibly talented: Gavaskar
Rahul was praised by Gavaskar, who described him as a gifted cricket player with all the shots in the book. The former cricket player who is now a broadcaster believes that self-doubt may be preventing the Mangaluru native from reaching his full potential.
“He is incredibly talented. Examine every shot on the flick, leg-side, offside, and anything else. He hasn’t lived up to the hype despite all the bullets. Now, that might be some self-doubt on his part or something else that prevents the Bangalore boys from reaching their full potential,” Gavaskar added.
KL Rahul cover drive was praised by Gavaskar as being flawless. The former hoped that the Indian opener will score almost 700 runs and have a great series for India.
It was exciting to watch the cover drive, the straight batter drive that we just witnessed, and the off the front and back feet. There is perfection in that cover drive, which is why I can gush about it. I’m hoping he does well in this series and gets at least 500, if not 700, runs. From India, that would be amazing,” Gavaskar continued.
