During the current Test match between England and India, former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar provided a candid evaluation on Prasidh Krishna’s selection and performance. Prasidh Krishna, who gave up 56 runs in his opening 10 overs on Day 2, bowled better than Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur, according to the famous pundit.
Additionally, Sanjay Manjrekar believed that the management had made the right decision in selecting Prasidh for the series’ first game.
“I think Prasidh Krishna has looked his best if you compare this Test match to the one he played for India in South Africa before. He was India’s number two seamer yesterday, despite not quite taking any wickets. “He was more powerful than Shardul Thakur and superior to Mohammed Siraj,” Manjrekar said in an interview with JioHotstar.
Thus, India chose wisely and pursued him; this is Prasidh Krishna’s best effort. If he gains confidence and takes a few wickets, he may improve steadily over time. I won’t criticise Prasidh Krishna for his bowling style since he has done everything he could to the best of his ability,” Manjrekar continued.
He has bowled some good deliveries, but not enough of them consistently: Dasgupta
Even though he agreed with Manjrekar’s assessment, renowned analyst Deep Dasgupta pointed out that Prasidh finds it difficult to keep a disciplined line when bowling on flat surfaces like the one in Leeds.
“The consistency of Prasidh on the flat ground we have here at Headingley is my biggest worry. I believe Prasidh has conceded a few more boundary deliveries than you would have liked him to, but you have to come in and bowl the appropriate channel, over after over. Although he has bowled some terrific deliveries, his consistency has been lacking. Prasidh’s natural length has always been discussed, but it may be challenging, particularly when facing batsmen who enjoy playing their shots and have a variety of choices at their disposal. Dasgupta said, “That’s why you see that kind of economy rate.”
Prasidh transformed India’s fortunes from being wicketless on the second day to taking three of England’s seven wickets (as of this writing). Among his wickets were Harry Brook (99 off 111), Jamie Smith (40 off 62), and Ollie Pope (106 off 137). But in the 20 overs he has bowled so far, he hasn’t delivered a single maiden over.
