ENG vs. IND 2025: Rishabh Pant's response to Sunil Gavaskar's "superb, superb, superb" statement

In answer to Sunil Gavaskar’s’superb, superb, superb’ remark after his incredible century in India’s opening innings of the first Test of the five-match series between England and India, Rishabh Pant delivered an epic reaction. After reaching his seventh century in the longest format, he proceeded to provide an honest assessment of his feelings.

After Sunil Gavaskar comments shifted from “stupid, stupid” to “superb, superb,” Indian batter Cheteshwar Pujara asked Rishabh Pant how he felt.

During the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy’s Boxing Day Test match against Australia, Gavaskar made the on-air statement, “Stupid, stupid, stupid,” after the southpaw made a careless stroke off Scott Boland’s bowling to give away his wicket at a critical point in the match.

“The sensation is the same as what you’re experiencing right now. Working on your areas of weakness and turning setbacks into victories is incredibly satisfying. That was the way it was thought. I was fortunate to have conquered my shortcomings. Work, concentration, and self-control were crucial. For me, it was a really exciting time,” Pant told Pujara.

In the first innings of the ongoing Test, Pant was one of three Indian centurions; the other two batters were Shubman Gill (147 off 227) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (101 off 159). The hosts were bowled out for 471 in 113 overs, with Josh Tongue (4/86 in 20 overs) and Ben Stokes (4/66 in 20 overs) being the standout performers.
