An exuberant On Day 3 of the first Test match between England and India at Headingley, Leeds, Mohammed Siraj was photographed in ecstasy after dismissing English captain Ben Stokes. After working hard to take one wicket for 17 overs in the innings, the England skipper was Siraj’s maiden Test wicket.
Mohammed Siraj angled a round-the-wicket delivery on a length. Stokes was pulled into the stroke as the ball nipped away after pitching. The Three Lions all-rounder tried to play the ball a little squarer because of the ridiculous mid-off that was in place. He was limited to brushing the ball to wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant and then turning around to discover that the catch had been made.

The first batter to fall for the home team was not Stokes. Ollie Pope (106 off 137) left off Prasidh Krishna’s bowling with the intention of cutting the ball away a few overs early. The centurion could only graze the ball to Pant, the wicketkeeper, though.
In 49 overs, England finished the second day at 209/3. Jasprit Bumrah was the leading batsman and took all three of the English pitches. India appeared poised to reach the 550-run milestone earlier in the day, but a batting collapse earlier in the day saw them bowled out for 471.
The three centurions for the Indian team were Shubman Gill (147 off 227), Yashasvi Jaiswal (101 off 159), and Pant (134 off 178). Stokes (4/66 in 20 overs) and Josh Tongue (4/86 in 20 overs) split the eight wickets for England.
In the opening over of his team’s innings, Zak Crawley (4 off 6) was out. But Pope and Ben Duckett (62 off 94) worked together to put England in a stronger position. Later in the day, Bumrah fired Joe Root. After only scoring 28, the seasoned hitter went away. Although the hosts are already behind by 144 runs, they will try to surpass India’s score, while the visitors will rely on their bowlers to finish the job.
