ENG vs IND 2025: Mark Wood eyes return for final Test

Mark Wood, an experienced bowler for England, stated his wish to play Test cricket again and hopes to play in the fifth and final game of the current series against India. The 35-year-old speedster, who is presently recuperating from a knee ailment, thinks he can win the battle against time to be ready for the fifth Test, which is set to start on July 31 at London’s Kennington Oval.

During the 2025 Champions Trophy encounter against Afghanistan, Mark Wood suffered injury to his left knee’s medial ligament, forcing him to hobble off the pitch in the middle of the contest. After undergoing knee surgery in March, he was given a four-month rehabilitation schedule, which effectively kept him out of the five-match series. Wood, however, claimed to have resumed light bowling with a view on participating in the Oval Test and that he has been putting in a lot of effort behind the scenes to help his comeback.

“Rehab is progressing nicely. “I’m officially on the comeback trail now, as I’ve just started bowling very lightly,” Mark Wood stated in an interview with BBC Test Match Special.

My goal is to continue participating in this series so that I may observe some of the players that I might encounter. I’m still aiming for the final test, most likely. It could be a little early to do anything before that. “I might not make it to the last test, but right now, that’s still my focus,” he continued.

To begin with, it has been a little slow: Mark Wood

Mark Wood is anticipated to participate in Durham’s County Championship game against Somerset, which begins on July 22. The Ashington native acknowledged that it has taken him some time to recuperate, but he pointed out that things have recently accelerated, with the aim of playing Shubman Gill’s team again in international cricket.

“It has started out a little slowly. It’s starting to pick up speed now, but I haven’t been able to accomplish anything. I’m hoping that I won’t be bowling for too long. “I’ll just wait and see, but I’m still hoping to play a part right at the end of the series,” he remarked.
