ENG vs IND 2025: Sanjay Manjrekar mocks Virat Kohli during commentary

After making a joke against Virat Kohli during Day 1 of the first Test match between England and India, former Indian cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar caused a stir on social media. After the fifth ball of the twenty-first over was delivered, the incident took place.

KL Rahul had gone on strike. A full-length delivery from Brydon Carse was well outside the off-stump line. Rahul did not participate in the delivery. A “former batter” who would have pursued the wide delivery was hinted to by Manjrekar, a member of the commentary panel.

“They have been left alone, possibly taking wickets outside the off-stump full. Everything that has pitched straight up onto the stumps is driven by Jaiswal, while everything that has pitched wide is left undisturbed. During the live broadcast, Manjrekar said, “We know a former batter who would have gone after it and gotten himself into trouble, but not these two (Rahul and Jaiswal).”

Netizens quickly figured out what was going on. Social media was inundated with criticism, with many cricket fans denouncing Manjrekar’s attempts to delve deeply into Kohli’s past even after the star batsman had retired from Test cricket.

For those who are unfamiliar, Virat Kohli previous red-ball game vulnerability has been deliveries on the fifth and sixth stump lines.

In the 2024–25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, he was eliminated in a similar manner on eight of the nine occasions.

In terms of how the day has progressed thus far, India appears to be leading. They were 215/2 at the conclusion of 51 overs when tea was called. In his maiden Test match in England, Jaiswal had climbed to a magnificent century. Additionally, Shubman Gill reached his half-century at a respectable pace.
