Shubman Gill has been named India’s newest Test captain. The forthcoming series against England, in which Gill’s team will play the Three Lions in a five-match series beginning on June 20, will be the first test for the recently chosen captain. Shubman Gill, the captain of the Gujarat Titans, a well-known team in the Indian Premier League and a former T20 skipper, has talked about the contrast between winning a Test series abroad and the thrill of winning an IPL season.
Before facing some of the players in the match, Gill spoke in a news conference on the eve of the first Test, with members of the media hurling beamers at him. However, Gill handled the questioning brilliantly and stated that, in his view, defeating some of the best teams in international cricket on the road is far more important than winning an IPL series.
“Captain, may I ask you,if you imagine winning five test series in England and imagine winning the IPL, which one seems more magnificent to you?” A reporter asked Gill a question.
“I think the test series is the best. As a captain, you don’t have many chances to visit England; perhaps two, or perhaps three if you are the finest in your generation. Therefore, you get to go try your hand at it every year when the IPL comes around. Thus, in my view, winning a test series in South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, or England is more important,” Shubman Gill said.
Shubman Gill will bat fourth.
Shubman Gill has declared that he will be the Indian team’s new No. 4 batter in the red-ball format going ahead, following the retirement of great batsman Virat Kohli. He claimed that after having a serious discussion with head coach Gautam Gambhir, he made this important decision. Rishabh Pant, Gill’s new deputy and outstanding wicketkeeper-batter, will continue to bat at No. 5, his previous position. Although there is still plenty to learn about the hitters positioned third and sixth in the batting order, this information will soon be made public.
Shubman Gill (C), Rishabh Pant (WK & VC), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Abhimanyu Easwaran, B Sai Sudharsan, Karun Nair, Dhurv Jurel (WK), Ravindra Jadeja, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Shardul Thakur, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, and Harshit Rana are the Indian team for their first Test match against England.
