Together, cricketing greats Sachin Tendulkar and James Anderson unveiled the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, which will be used in upcoming Test matches between England and India. The new ICC World Test Championship cycle (2025–27) began with the unveiling, which took place before to the start of the five-match Test series at Headingley, Leeds, on June 20.
On the eve of the first Test, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) unveiled the new trophy in honour of two of the greatest cricketers in the game’s history. The trophy bore Tendulkar’s and Anderson’s autographs and etched images.
Last year, James Anderson resigned from international cricket. With 704 wickets, including 149 against India in 39 Tests at a remarkable average of just 25.47, Anderson is the most successful fast bowler in Test history.
“My family and I are proud that Sachin and I are the namesakes of this enduring series. The competition between our two countries has always been unique, rich in history, passion, and memorable moments. Being acknowledged in this manner is truly an honour. This summer, I’m excited to watch England’s next chapter come to life. As you could anticipate from two outstanding teams, it should be exciting, contested cricket. “This is the pinnacle of elite sport,” Anderson said in a statement.

In contrast, Tendulkar has amassed 15,921 runs from 200 Test matches, including 2,535 runs at an average of 51.73 versus England, making him the all-time highest run scorer in Test cricket.

It is the most advanced version of the game that, in spite of all obstacles, teaches you perseverance, self-control, and flexibility. Tendulkar remarked, “I owe my foundation to Test cricket, as it has seen me grow from disappointments to triumphs, from aspirations to fulfilment,” while posing for a historic picture with the English star.
Since 2007, the new trophy, which took the place of the Pataudi Trophy, has represented the two countries’ cricketing ties. To mark the 75th anniversary of India’s first Test match in 1932, the trophy was named in honour of the renowned former Indian captain Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi…. The Pataudi Medal, which will be given to the series’ victorious captain, is an honour the boards have chosen to honour the previous trophy.
The Anderson-Tendulkar trophy announcement, in particular, caused a great deal of debate regarding the Pataudi Trophy and the choice to rename the Test series between the two nations. Tendulkar then explained the controversy and that he would stop at nothing to uphold its heritage.
“Yes, I have [remain quiet].” Then let me explain everything in detail. First and foremost, it was up to the BCCI and ECB to decide whether to retire the trophy. They told me that only after they had made up their minds. In reference to the Pataudi family, I am aware of their role in Indian cricket. In addition to playing for India and England, Tiger Pataudi was a distinguished Indian captain. I did not see them play for I wasn’t born, but I have indeed heard stories and those stories inspire us all,” Tendulkar told RevSportz.
