Rishabh Pant told the media in Leeds, “I think the whole India was disheartened by what happened in the aircraft (crash), but at the same time, the only thing from our side is that we are going to be sticking with them, how we can make India happy again.”
In the forthcoming Test series against England, the players would try to elevate the nation’s spirits with an exceptional performance while remembering the unfortunate Air India airline tragedy, said India Test vice-captain Rishabh Pant.
In one of the worst aviation disasters in the nation’s history, an Air India flight headed for London on June 12 crashed just after takeoff, killing 241 passengers and crew members.
The wicketkeeper-batter confirmed that the team is dedicated to playing their best for the nation and acknowledged the intense emotions brought on by the collision.
“Undoubtedly, the emotions will be high due to the crash, but we will also make every effort to represent the nation and make them happy, which is an additional responsibility at all times,” Rishabh Pant continued.
He underlined that although winning is always expected of the Indian cricket team, it is not always feasible.
Rishabh Pant, however, pledged that the team would do everything in their power to bring joy and pride to the nation.
“You want to make India happy all the time, but as a cricket player, that’s not possible all the time. However, I can assure you that we will give it our all and put forward our best effort, and in the process, we will make India a much happier place,” Rishabh Pant added.
Rishabh Pant also talked about his late 2022 vehicle accident and expressed gratitude for the love and support he received, which inspired him to work hard every day and return to the field.
“Going forward, recovering from the (auto) accident has been difficult for the past two years, but I also want to be a person who is constantly learning new things. See, for me, simply lying on the ground after my injury, giving people hope that I could recover, and the affection they gave me will always hold a special place in my heart,” he said.
