The Three Lions’ performances in red-ball cricket have significantly improved after Brendon McCullum was hired as head coach, and former England Test captain Joe Root described the sense of playing the “Bazball way” since then.
The most fun time of my career, according to Joe Root, has been playing during this time. In the longest format of the game, the right-handed hitter has already made history by becoming England’s top run scorer and breaking records. He has been in excellent form lately.
I’ve had the greatest fun of my career playing the manner we do and in the atmosphere that has been established. In an interview with Sky Sports, Root stated, “The work that Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum, the head coach, have done has been fantastic, and it has been a lot of fun.”
Joe Root also discussed the word “Bazball” and explained that the underlying idea may not be entirely understood just yet.
“‘Bazball’ isn’t the best word to describe it, and it may not always be reported as it is. He continued, “There is a lot more method to it than is probably perceived, but it has been a big change and different from how a lot of teams play.”
Joe Root ended the 2023–2025 cycle as the top run scorer, despite England’s failure to advance to the World Test Championship (WTC) final this year. He claimed that throughout the final years of his remarkable career, his main priorities are to enjoy the game and treasure the special moments.
“I just want to enjoy playing and relive the unadulterated sensation of being ten or younger—watching my dad play or hanging out with my brother in the garden or garage. Not sticking sticks in the ground with a taped-up tennis ball and acting like you’re at the MCG or Lord’s, but getting out of bed, pulling open the curtains, hoping it won’t rain, and attempting to channel those emotions,” Joe Root added.
Root will play in India’s forthcoming Test series against England, which starts on Friday, June 20 and lasts for five matches.
