Vaibhav Suryavanshi, 14, had an amazing first season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, which ended on June 3. Jos Buttler was astounded by his abilities.
Jos Buttler former team, the Rajasthan Royals (RR), signed Suryavanshi for INR 1.10 crore.
Because the team administration wanted to develop him for the future, many assumed he would be benched or play in just a few games this season. But in seven games, the wonder child scored 252 runs at a strike rate of 206.56 and an average of 36.
When Suryavanshi crushed a century off 35 balls against Jos Buttler Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, he became well-known. The former captain of England’s white-ball team called the knock “ludicrous,” pointing out that the southpaw destroyed international bowlers Rashid Khan, Mohammed Sira, and Prasidh Krishna. Buttler also brought up Suryavanshi’s spectacular 57 off 33 balls against the Chennai Super Kings. Rajasthan avoided finishing at the bottom of the table thanks to this victory.
“The hundred runs off of 35 balls in the innings against us was plain ridiculous. Rashid Khan, the greatest T20 bowler in the world, Mohammed Siraj, an outstanding international bowler, and Prasidh Krishna make up our (GT) bowling. In an interview with Stuart Broad for the ‘For The Love Of Cricket’ podcast, Jos Buttler stated, “And he (Suryavanshi) hit big sixes.”
“I was watching on TV when he played an innings against the Chennai Super Kings a few games later. Even though CSK has experienced players like Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin, Suryavanshi was outstanding! ‘I’m so in charge, I’ll just have one now,’ he said, knocking one out to cover. I believed at the time that this man was the greatest player I had ever seen. “I was completely amazed,” Jos Buttler remarked.
When Suryavanshi made his debut on April 19 against the Lucknow Super Giants, he smashed a six off the first ball that Shardul Thakur bowled to him.
Jos Buttler praised Suryavanshi’s unafraid style of play and likened his batsmanship to that of legends like Brian Lara and Yuvraj Singh.
“In the IPL, he really smacked his first ball for six. He allowed himself a little leeway and hit it far, far away for a six. That was his fearlessness. They almost want to make a statement, like ‘look at me,’ because there are so many outstanding players,” Buttler remarked.
“We need to attempt to find out how long did you think, ‘I’m going to try and hit my first ball for six,’ before that happened. because the shot was planned. He searched for it. His incredible bat swing has been witnessed by others. Brian Lara or Yuvraj Singh, it’s a big message,” Buttler continued.
