After the current Test match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh at Galle, the legendary Lankan player decided to retire from the longest format of the game. Rohit Sharma has congratulated former skipper Angelo Mathews on his incredible Test career.
Mathews posted Rohit Sharma touching video message to his Instagram story.
Rohit Sharma talked about how much he loves their faceoffs, from Under-19 cricket to the international arena, in the 55-second video. Additionally, he wished Mathews well for doing things that not everyone has done in their professional lives. Notably, earlier this year in May, Rohit announced his own retirement from Test cricket.
“Hey Angie, congrats on your outstanding career in Test cricket. Your final Test match is tomorrow. Rohit remarked, “I just want to wish you and the team the very best.” “From our Under-19 days to the present, we have fought some excellent battles over the years. You have served your country admirably, and I have no doubt that everyone at home is grateful for what you have done. And what you have accomplished is something that not many others have accomplished. So one more, congratulations on that. And sure, I simply want to wish you and your family the best going forward. Cheers to your retirement. Have fun. And, dude, we’ll see you on the other end. Best wishes.

Over the years, the 38-year-old all-round player has been a mainstay for Sri Lanka. As of June 17, Mathews is in his 119th Test match and has amassed 8167 runs at an average of 44.62.
His role in Sri Lanka’s second-ever series victory in England in 2014 stands out as one of his most memorable Test cricketing experiences. In the two-Test series, Mathews amassed 306 runs and claimed four wickets, earning him the title of Player of the Series.
The maestro of Sri Lanka has not yet retired from playing T20Is and ODIs. Although his availability for the 2027 50-over World Cup is highly uncertain, there is a chance he will play in the T20 World Cup the following year.
Regarding their record against one other, Mathews has dismissed Rohit Sharma ten times in all forms while giving up 161 runs at an average of 16.1. Although there haven’t been many head-to-head matches, there have been a number of notable encounters between India and Sri Lanka during their games.
