Mohammed Siraj ought to spearhead the pace unit in England alongside Jasprit Bumrah: former India bowling coach Bharat Arun

Bharat Arun, a former bowling coach for India, believes that Mohammed Siraj should assume the role of leading the bowling attack, beginning with the Test series against England.

During his early years with the Indian team, when Virat Kohli was captain and Ravi Shastri was head coach, Siraj developed his talents under Arun’s close supervision. Arun is a fantastic person to convey exactly what the 31-year-old bowler is capable of because he has watched Siraj improve his game up close.

The Indian team management plans to carefully monitor Jasprit Bumrah’s workload, so he won’t be able to play in all five Test matches after suffering a back injury during the Border-Gavaskar series earlier this year. It will be good for the Shubman Gill-led team if Siraj can fill in for Bumrah.

Arun recalled how the Hyderabad bowler stood out during India’s historic victory at Lord’s in 2021, taking four wickets in each innings, and stated that the next England tour offers Siraj a fantastic opportunity to develop in stature.

“Mohammed Siraj has a fantastic opportunity. He has accumulated adequate experience.

He has thrown some amazing spells, such as the one he used in the Lord’s Test that we won last time, that I have witnessed. Siraj needs to take a stand and declare, “I will be our nation’s front-line bowler.” He has the necessary skill set. It will be crucial now what kind of thinking he has,” Arun told TOI.

“He’s intelligent. Siraj is someone who will give it his all and can be a captain’s delight. Being aggressive is fine, but managing it will be crucial. His IPL has been going well. He continued, “He appeared to have good rhythm.”

Mohammed Siraj has taken 100, 71, and 14 wickets in 36 Test matches, 44 ODIs, and 16 T20Is while playing for the Men in Blue.
