Rohit Sharma resigned from the game’s longest format on May 7 and was replaced as India’s Test captain by Shubman Gill. During India’s forthcoming five-match Test series against England in the UK, the Punjab batsman is expected to lead the way.
As he assumes a new role that entails its own set of responsibilities, Shubman Gill stated before of the highly anticipated series that head coach Gautam Gambhir and BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar do not place any pressure or expectations on him.
The Gambhir-Agarkar team wants him to assert himself as a leader, Shubman Gill stated in an interview with former Indian batsman Dinesh Karthik. Both as a player and as captain, the 25-year-old is prepared to live up to his own standards.
“The anticipations I’ve spoken with Gauti bhai and Ajit bhai on this topic several times. All they want is for me to have the freedom to express myself as a leader. ‘There are no expectations’ is what they have told me. They don’t expect me to do something that I can’t do. I don’t believe they have any pressure or expectations regarding that, but you do have some expectations of yourself as a player and a leader. That’s what I demand from myself, but not from them,” Shubman Gill stated in an interview with Karthik on Sky Sports.
