WTC final: Everything to know about prize money allocation

South Africa defeated Australia by five wickets at Lord’s in the 2023-25 WTC final. To win an ICC title after 27 years was a historic success for South Africa. After dominating the second half against the Pat Cummins-led team, the defending champions, they won the game in the opening session of the fourth day.

Australia was bowled out for 212 in 56.4 overs after fielding first. Their only contributions were Steve Smith (66 off 112) and Beau Webster (72 off 92) as Kagiso Rabada took five wickets in 15.4 overs. South Africa were demolished for 74 runs less than the Aussies. The situation could have been worse had Temba Bavuma (36 off 84) and David Bedingham (45 off 111) not scored in the first innings. Cummins (6/28 in 18.1 overs) bowled well.

Despite the crucial lead, Australia fell to 73/7 before Alex Carey (43 off 50), Mitchell Starc (58* off 136) and Josh Hazlewood (17 off 53) set South Africa a large total. Rabada was one wicket short of a fifth 10-wicket haul. A stunning century by Aiden Markram (136* off 207) and a critical 66 off 134 by skipper Bavuma gave South Africa the perfect victory at the Home of Cricket.

Cash money increased significantly from the 2021-23 WTC. The 2023-25 winners received $2M more than in 2023. In 2023, the bottom four teams won $100,000 apiece; not this time.
