Temba Bavuma, the captain of South Africa, gave his team a thrilling knock in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) Final at Lord’s that nearly resulted in a historic victory before he fell early on Day 4. With Aiden Markram undefeated at 122, the Proteas are within 35 runs of victory over Australia, chasing 282.
On Day 3, Temba Bavuma game-winning knock gave the Proteas the advantage.
The South African captain, who stitched a vital 147-run stand with centurion Markram, finished undefeated on 65* at stumps despite a hamstring injury.
The overnight duo of Markram and Temba Bavuma were hoping to prolong their innings as South Africa resumed at 213/2, only 69 runs short of their objective. The Australians did, however, quickly make an early breakthrough.
The right-handed batsman was drawn into a defensive by the delivery of Australian captain Pat Cummins in the 59th over, giving Alex Carey an edge behind the stumps. After scoring 66 from 134 balls, Temba Bavuma stepped back, and the Lord’s audience gave him a standing ovation. He hit five fours in his innings.
