The Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy announcement has been postponed by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) in remembrance of the victims of the tragic Air India jet tragedy in Ahmedabad that claimed lives. To honour the 241 passengers who died in the dreadful event—53 of whom were British citizens—the bilateral series’ ceremonial renaming has been postponed. The updated timetable for the prize announcement has not yet been made public.
On Saturday, June 14, it was planned to rename the Pataudi Trophy the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Following a consensus between the two boards, the event—which was originally scheduled to take place at the Lord’s—has been postponed. The participating governments are discussing a flexible date as an alternative for the event.
“Out of respect (for the lives lost), the announcement may be delayed in light of the unfortunate events in India. The best moment to make the news is still up for debate within the BCCI. An ECB official, cited by Cricbuzz, stated that the announcement had been kept open-ended because of the tragedy.

241 individuals died out of the 242 passengers on the aircraft, including some students from a neighbouring medical institution who were present when the plane crashed. It is considered to be among the worst aviation catastrophes in history. It has not yet been determined how many students were killed in the medical college building where the plane crashed.
“Yes, there is a confirmed plan to retain the Pataudi link in the England-India series,” the official continued in their statement. The victorious captain will probably receive a medallion, maybe with Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi’s name, according to Cricbuzz. Among others hoping to carry on the legacy of the deceased legend are Jay Shah and Sachin Tendulkar.
The ECB’s decision to change the Pataudi Trophy’s name to the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy has sparked a debate. Concerns have been voiced by Sunil Gavaskar and the Pataudi family regarding the former Indian captain’s legacy.
