ENG vs. IND 2025: Coach Samuel Jayaraj supports KL Rahul ahead of the visit, saying, "He will be more mature in England."

KL Rahul According to Rahul’s childhood coach Samuel Jayaraj, the batsman-wicketkeeper has been overcoming obstacles since he was a small boy. On the first day of the second unofficial Test between the England Lions and India A, Rahul displayed his poise by hitting a century. He could have a better chance of being selected for the forthcoming England tour, which starts on June 20, after his 116-run opening performance.

According to Jayaraj, KL Rahul has always obeyed orders and adjusted well to various batting positions.

He emphasised KL Rahul growth as a player and recognised his maturity, noting that the cricketer maintained his composure in the face of being left out of the T20 World Cup.

In my opinion as a coach, this is not shocking. Every time, he was prepared. He kept wickets as well. Taking singles on the fourth, fifth, or sixth ball, he would strategically switch up his strike and move on to the next over. He is a really good follower. According to Jayaraj, who was cited by NDTV Sports, “His role in the Champions Trophy was very specific, and he executed it perfectly.”

He was not selected for the T20 World Cup, even though he had a fantastic ODI World Cup. He didn’t complain or lose his temper. because these are things he witnessed as a child. That explains why he is so technically and intellectually strong today. And that’s his greatest asset. He is much more mature now. He has been a top-tier cricket player for the past ten years. It is evident from experience. You can see that he has drastically changed as a player; he is much more composed, cool, and in charge today. What really strikes me, he continued, is that serenity.

He said that his advice to KL Rahul would be to just be happy and enjoy the game. During the England tour, Jayaraj emphasised his enhanced mental toughness and better red-ball cricket technique, expressing optimism that the world will see a different side of the Bengaluru-born cricketer.

The only thing I ever tell him is to enjoy and grow. You could say that’s been my motto, my message, and even my password. You must find enjoyment in your work. Happiness is a must. Jayaraj stated, “Your body just won’t react the way you want it to if you’re not happy.”

I believe that while form is fleeting, the skills and techniques you acquire endure a lifetime. To be honest, we coaches always had the red ball in mind when he was playing in state and zonal tournaments in Bangalore and Mangalore. White-ball cricket was not a major concern for us at the time. Red-ball cricket was hence the basis for the skill and technique he developed. “A more and more mature KL Rahul will be seen in England,” Jayaraj said.
