When Rohit Sharma went to Cheteshwar Pujara’s wife’s book launch, he was asked how his father felt about his retirement from Test cricket. The former Indian Test captain spoke to his father’s intense passion for Test cricket. When Sharma struck 264 in an ODI against Sri Lanka in 2014, he recalled that his father was not overly thrilled.
Even if his Test cricket contributions weren’t as high as the scores he scored in ODIs, Rohit said his father used to go into great depth about them. For someone who closely watched his career from the Under-19 days to the top level, Rohit thought it was strange.
“That day I hit 264 in the ODI is still fresh in my mind. “Okay, well played,” he said. Excellent work. He showed no signs of eagerness. Going out there and all that is crucial. However, Test cricket used to go into great detail with me about it, even if I used to get good 30s, 40s, 50s, or 60s. That was his level of affection for the game. According to the Hindustan Times, Rohit stated during the occasion, “And he’s obviously seen you go up the ranks.”
My dad has always enjoyed watching Test cricket: Rohit Sharma
The Indian batter asserted that, like his mother, his father, who worked for a transport company, was instrumental in his rise to prominence in cricket. Then, underlining his passion for the game, he asserted that his father would rather watch Test cricket than limited-overs cricket.
“My dad was employed by a transportation company. As I mentioned, my father was heavily involved in making sacrifices so that we may live our lives, just like my mother did. However, my father has been a Test cricket enthusiast since the beginning. At the event, Rohit Sharma continued, “He doesn’t like this new-age cricket.”
The famous cricket player talked about his father’s feelings over his retirement from Test matches. According to the seasoned player, his father has watched him play Test matches and has shown appreciation for it. He said that when his father learnt of his retirement, he was a little let down. Rohit, however, said that his father was pleased with his successful profession. In closing, Rohit Sharma expressed his gratitude for all that his father had done for him.
“Obviously, my father has witnessed me playing a lot of cricket with the red ball. He therefore values red ball cricket greatly. When I announced my retirement, he was obviously a little let down. However, I was also content at the same moment. That’s my father, though. And he has undoubtedly contributed significantly to my current situation. It would never have been feasible without their assistance,” Rohit Sharma said.
