Gautam Gambhir said, "I don't think we should have road shows," in reference to the Bengaluru stampede

Gautam Gambhir, the head coach of India, conveyed his profound sadness over the unfortunate stampede that took place in Bengaluru on June 4 during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) win celebrations. One of the city’s darkest days, the catastrophe claimed eleven lives and injured several more.

Gautam Gambhir described the event as terrible and strongly suggested that roadshows not be planned in the future. He underlined that every life matters and that everyone concerned must accept responsibility. “We just should not conduct a roadshow if we are not prepared to manage one safely,” he said.

“We shouldn’t have road shows, in my opinion. We can be more certain about this in the future. My thoughts and prayers are with those who have died. For this, we are all equally accountable. I just have one thing to say: we must take responsibility. Every life counts. We shouldn’t put on a road show if we’re not prepared.

During a press conference, Gautam Gambhir stated, “You cannot lose eleven people.”

Following their victory over Punjab Kings (PBKS) in Ahmedabad for the IPL 2025 title, RCB organised a joyous roadshow in Bengaluru. However, because of little police presence and poor planning, the situation rapidly got out of control as thousands of supporters gathered in the streets and surrounding the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Tragically, what started out as a celebration descended into a stampede that left people dead and injured.

In an official statement posted on social media, RCB expressed their profound sadness over the occurrence. They expressed empathy for their fans’ suffering and the terrible deaths that had occurred. The franchise said that the relatives of the deceased would receive INR 10 lakh apiece.

“The RCB family has experienced a great deal of distress and pain as a result of yesterday’s regrettable incident in Bengaluru. The IPL team posted on their X handle, “RCB has announced financial support of INR 10 lakh to each of the eleven families of the deceased as a mark of respect and a gesture of solidarity.”
