The Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) management, the event organisers, and City Police Commissioner B. Dayananda would all receive notifications, according to Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner G. Jagadeesha. The magisterial investigation into the deadly stampede that happened close to the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium is being led by Jagadeesha.
Eleven people were killed and more than fifty injured in the event, which happened on Wednesday, June 4, during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru win celebrations. The investigation is still ongoing, Jagadeesha said, and he declined to comment on who might be held accountable at this time.
“To evaluate the scene, I went to the KSCA stadium today. Important stakeholders will receive invitations to participate in the investigation. Within 15 days, the inquiry will be finished. I am currently beginning the investigation. According to Hindustan Times (HT), Jagadeesha told reporters, “I will not draw conclusions at this stage.”
“I have to enquire and submit a report to the government,” he stated.
Additionally, Deputy Commissioner G. Jagadeesha stressed that the Police Commissioner bears responsibility for granting authorisation for the event, and that he was not the appropriate authority to do so. Following political criticism and public outcry, the Karnataka State Government had already promised that those guilty would be held accountable and announced a magistrate’s investigation into the incident.
Following the Royal Challengers Bengaluru incident, the Karnataka government will implement a new SOP for crowd control.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, State Home Minister G. Parameshwara declared that the Karnataka government would implement a new Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to control major public gatherings. He highlighted the government’s resolve to find the mistakes that caused the tragedy, where thousands of people crowded the stadium to celebrate Royal Challengers Bengaluru IPL victory.
“Strict measures will be taken to address the shortcomings that resulted in this unfortunate incident,” Parameshwara told reporters before of the event.
