"Eleven lives were lost needlessly," Madan Lal said of RCB's poor preparation of the celebrations for their IPL victory

On Wednesday, June 4, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) celebrated their victory in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) with a large audience at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. At the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, the Rajat Patidar-led team won their first IPL championship by defeating the Punjab Kings by a margin of six runs. However, a terrible tragedy marred the festivities when a rush broke out, killing 11 individuals and injuring over 50 more.

The majority of the fatalities, according to the authorities, were young persons, both male and female, and some of them were students. Siddaramaiah, the honourable chief minister of Karnataka, stated that although the M Chinnaswamy Stadium can hold 35,000 people, just two to three lakh showed up. Around 50,000 people, according to the police, had gathered within a one-kilometer radius of the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. To get a look at the players, many attempted to force through gates or scale obstacles.

Madan Lal, a former cricket player for India, blasted the RCB management, questioning why they needed to hold a victory parade in Bengaluru on Wednesday since they had already celebrated the win the night before in Ahmedabad.

“You had a celebration the night before in Ahmedabad. Why was it so urgent to plan a big event for Bengaluru the following day? Herald Goa cited Madan Lal as saying, “Eleven lives were lost needlessly.”

We didn’t ask RCB or KSCA for anything in relation to the celebration: CM

Only twenty minutes after the planners were notified of the regrettable event taking place outside, the celebrations inside the stadium were called off. In the interim. CM Siddaramaiah stated that the Karnataka State Cricket Association and RCB were in charge of planning the event and that the government had no involvement.

“It’s not us. We didn’t ask RCB or KSCA for anything in relation to the celebration. This was planned by them. We believed that the government ought to offer congratulations. We thought we should join in the celebration simply because it was a Bengaluru team. That’s all. He told reporters, “RCB and KSCA brought the team to Bengaluru for celebrations, but we didn’t ask that we would do this.”
