When it changed, everything worked out for RCB since Ee Saala Cup Namde had turned into a jinx: Sunil Gavaskar

After RCB defeated Punjab Kings by 6 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad to win their first IPL 2025 title, Sunil Gavaskar reacted to the team’s catchphrase, “Ee sala cup namde.” The former Indian cricket player believed that the fans’ attitude towards their chances of winning the league was more subdued in the 18th season.

According to the 75-year-old, not everyone yelled the motto as much as they used to, and he believed it really benefited RCB. The former cricket player who is now a broadcaster said the slogan had shifted from being supportive of the team and its players to more of a jinx. He believed that by lowering the slogan, RCB was able to win their first-ever championship.

“The well-known catchphrase, ‘Ee sala cup namde,’ was less prominent than usual this year. Perhaps it helped that it wasn’t in everyone’s face like it had been. India Today cited Sunil Gavaskar as stating, “It almost felt like that slogan had become a bit of a jinx, and once it was toned down, things worked out.”

Throughout the IPL, they have participated in elite cricket matches: Sunil Gavaskar

He went on to congratulate the Bengaluru-based team on their significant accomplishment and assert that they played excellent cricket all tournament long. He cited RCB’s recent performances, including their chase of 227 versus LSG, their lopsided victory over PBKS in Qualifier 1, and their victory in the final despite their, in his opinion, subpar total.

“RCB deserves congratulations for playing excellent cricket during the IPL. Their last two to three performances in particular were exceptional: they chased 230+ against LSG, crushed Punjab in Qualifier 1 in just 14 overs, and then maintained composure in the final even though they were 15 to 20 runs shy of a par score,” Gavaskar continued.

Virat Kohli, Phil Salt, Rajat Patidar, Liam Livingstone, Mayank Agarwal, Jitesh Sharma, and Romario Shepherd all made valuable contributions as RCB scored 190 runs after being asked to bat first. Together, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Yash Dayal, Josh Hazlewood, Krunal Pandya, Suyash Sharma, and Shepherd helped the Bengaluru-based team protect the target.
