“Scoring 25,000 runs is no laughing matter,” says Gautam Gambhir after Virat Kohli reaches another historic milestone.

"Scoring 25,000 runs is no laughing matter," says Gautam Gambhir after Virat Kohli reaches another historic milestone.

Even though he scored only 44 and 20 runs in the first and second innings of the second Test in Delhi, Virat Kohli displayed excellent batting form. In the first innings, the former India captain looked magnificent against Australian spinners, but a controversial call by on-field umpire Nitin Menon ended his beautifully constructed effort. But, legendary cricketers such as Sunil Gavaskar and Gautam Gambhir were quite delighted by Virat Kohli’s batting and believe he is on the verge of ending his century drought in Test cricket. In 2019, he scored his last century in the longest format of the game against Bangladesh at Eden Gardens.

So, despite not scoring many runs in the last two matches, Virat Kohli became the fastest cricketer to reach 25,000 runs in international competition on Day 3 of the second Test. The 34-year-old need 549 innings, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s 577. Ricky Ponting (588 innings), Jacques Kallis (594 innings), Kumar Sangakkara (608 innings), and Mahela Jayawardene are also on the list (701 innings).

Nevertheless, in response to Kohli’s distinctive feet, Gautam Gambhir tency and noted that getting 25000 international runs is no laughing matter.

“I’m not sure about the list, but the best thing about Virat Kohli is that he has done equally well in India, Australia, and South Africa. There will be an Australia or South African on the list, but you must also compare their subcontinental numbers. Kohli is a virtuoso of the 50-over format, but he has also struck 27 hundreds and 28 fifties in Test cricket. He has centuries in the United Kingdom, Australia, South Africa, and the West Indies. What else can you accomplish?

Achieving 25,000 runs is no joke. He has experienced many ups and downs but has remained steady. Your game undergoes numerous alterations. Your stance changes, your technique changes, your strengths and weaknesses change, your style of dismissals changes, your emotions change, and if you can factor in all of that, control all of these things, and score this many runs, then you are a great cricketer,” Gambhir remarked on Star Sports.
