At the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, June 3, Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) drew first blood thanks to Shreyas Iyer’s calm fielding performance.
Phil Salt gave RCB a strong start after being assigned to bat first, hitting a four and a six off Arshdeep Singh’s opening over. In the second over, the England batsman-wicketkeeper hit Kyle Jamieson for a lovely boundary.
But he attempted to drive the New Zealand bowler over his head for a maximum from the fourth ball. Salt went through with his hands even though he was far from the ball’s pitch. But the ball struck his bat’s bottom half and travelled far up in the air.

Shreyas backedtracked a few paces to his right and then turned to face the pitch. He steadied himself and latched onto a difficult catch to give PBKS a significant advantage. Salt, who was removed for a nine-ball 16, had the opportunity to do a great deal of damage in the powerplay, so it was a huge breakthrough.
Salt produced an even more spectacular catch later in the game to exact retribution for his ejection. The batter who left because of Priyansh Arya’s outstanding performance on the boundary line was the England international.
