Former India cricketer Yograj Singh has boldly predicted that Punjab Kings will end their title drought by defeating Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), who are also vying for their first gold, ahead of Tuesday’s IPL 2025 grand showdown at Ahmedabad’s famous Narendra Modi Stadium.
Yograj Singh thinks that taking out ace RCB batsman Virat Kohli, who has the ability to win the match, will be Punjab’s greatest threat. Notably, with 614 runs at an average of 55.82 and a strike rate of 146.53, the 36-year-old has had yet another outstanding season. But according to the former, PBKS will defeat RCB in the summit match.
Punjab will face difficulties if they are unable to free Virat. He can pursue 250 or 300 if he doesn’t escape. Punjab can win, in my opinion. If Virat is not removed in the first ten overs, the game is over. Punjab would win, according to my intuition,” Yograj Singh stated, as cited by NDTV.
Yograj Singh is a fantastic captain for Punjab.
For many years, Bengaluru’s success has been anchored by Kohli. The batting maestro has not yet experienced IPL glory despite reaching three IPL finals (in 2009, 2011, and 2016), and he will be hoping to rectify that this season.
However, after 11 years, Punjab has turned their fortunes around and advanced to the finals under the leadership of captain Shreyas Iyer and head coach Ricky Ponting. Their success this season has mostly been attributed to Iyer’s batting prowess and leadership approach. Iyer has smashed 39 sixes this year, which puts him only behind Nicholas Pooran in terms of maximums. Yograj Singh compared him to Kohli and praised him as a captain.
“The captain of Punjab is excellent. He’s a fantastic player. Virat Kohli and the skipper of Punjab will play each other. Punjab has Shreyas Iyer if RCB has Virat. Punjab ought to prevail. “Shreyas can win a game for RCB from any position if Virat can,” he continued.
Bengaluru, meanwhile, defeated Punjab in a lopsided Qualifier 1 to secure their final spot. Thanks to Iyer’s incredible knock, Punjab recovered admirably and defeated the Mumbai Indians in an exciting Qualifier 2.
