IPL 2025: RCB vs. PBKS Final If the final is cancelled, who will receive the trophy?

On Tuesday, June 3, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings will square off in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 Final at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. The Punjab-based team made a comeback by upsetting the five-time champion Mumbai Indians (MI) in Qualifier 2 on Sunday, while RCB secured their place in the final after overcoming PBKS in Qualifier 1.

There are currently rumours that rain may fall on the day of the Final after the match between PBKS and MI already saw rain at Motera. However, the organisers have prepared for weather-related delays; in the event that rain cancels the original day, a backup date of June 4 has been reserved. Furthermore, a 120-minute extension is allowed on both days to account for any rain delays; beyond that, the overs are forfeited, which is at 9:30 PM IST.

Additionally, a five-overs-a-side match has a cutoff time of 11.56 PM IST, and if the rain continues, the game will be moved to the Reserve Day on June 4. Although the Reserve Day has the same deadlines and requirements for play, the game will regrettably be cancelled if the extra day is likewise rained out.

What if both Match Day and Reserve Day are affected by rain?

The team that ended higher in the points table at the end of the league stage will be proclaimed the winner in this situation, per IPL regulations. If there is no outcome on both days, the IPL 2025 trophy will go to the Shreyas Iyer-led PBKS, who finished first in the points table with 19 points.

According to the playing condition law, “16.11.2-If conditions do not permit a Super Over, or subsequent Super Overs within the time available to determine the winner as described in Appendix F, then the team that finished in the higher position in the League table at the end of the relevant regular season (in accordance with clause 16.10) will be deemed the winner of the relevant play-off match.”

With PBKS and RCB, two teams that have played in the IPL for 18 years, vying for their first IPL championship, the stage is already set for the eagerly awaited final. The cricket community and its supporters are anticipating the momentous accomplishment.
