Sai Sudharsan, the batting sensation for Gujarat Titans (GT), stated that he is not too concerned about being selected for India’s T20 team in the run-up to the T20 World Cup next year. Rather, he wants to work on his weaknesses and try to become a better batter in the shortest format.
On Friday, May 30, at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur (New Chandigarh), Sudharsan defeated the Mumbai Indians in the Eliminator to cap up his IPL 2025 (Indian Premier League) season with an incredible 80 off of 49 balls. Gujarat had a chance to chase down a formidable 229-run target thanks to the southpaw. It was always going to be tough for the former champions when he was removed, though, and they ultimately finished on 208/6.
With 759 runs from 15 innings at an average of 54.21 and a strike rate of 156.18, Sudharsan is now the Orange Cap holder. The 23-year-old made IPL history by being the youngest player to score 700 or more runs. Before giving a national team call-up any real thought, he prefers to concentrate on the things that will help him improve as a hitter in T20 cricket rather than revelling in the incredible success.
“Obviously, everyone wants to play for their nation, and I would adore the opportunity to do so. However, I’m not thinking along such lines at the moment. During the post-match news conference, Sai Sudharsan stated, “As a T20 batter, there are a few areas where I need to improve looking at the season.”

Only four players have ever scored more runs than Sai Sudharsan in a single IPL season: Virat Kohli (973 runs in 2016), Jos Buttler (863 runs in 2022), Shubman Gill (890 runs in 2023), and David Warner (848 runs in 2016).
Now that he has been selected for India’s 18-man squad for the eagerly awaited five-match Test tour of England, which begins on June 20, Sai Sudharsan will turn his attention to red-ball cricket. In 29 first-class games, the left-handed batter has amassed 1,957 runs at an average of 39.93.
