Ahead of the foreign draft for the 2017 Big Bash League season, Adelaide Strikers have signed Jamie Overton as their international pre-signing. Over the previous two seasons, the English bowling all-rounder has played in 18 games for the Strikers. With 11 wickets and 191 runs last season, the 31-year-old was the Striker’s MVP.
For those who are unaware, the BBL changed the rules regarding foreign players before the 2024–25 season. Before the draft, teams were permitted to sign one foreign player. The player must be present for the full season, including the championship game, in accordance with league rules. The purpose of this amendment was to stop players from moving to other leagues.
Tim Paine, the Adelaide Strikers’ head coach, explained why Jamie Overton was a “top-priority” addition to the team. He went on to say that he had contributed some exceptional solo performances in the previous two seasons, which greatly energised the ensemble.
“One of our main goals was to sign Jamie before the draft. His two seasons with the Strikers have been exceptional, not just because of his individual batsmanship and ball skills but also because of his competitive nature and team spirit. According to ESPNcricinfo, Paine stated, “Jamie has such a big impact over the game, he can change the course of a match in just a few overs.”
Willing to support us in our pursuit of finals and, eventually, the BBL title: Jamie Overton
The England international conveyed his excitement about playing with the Strikers for a third consecutive season. He is thrilled to be working with the amazing team and his teammates once more. He also wants to keep the team’s winning streak going.
“Returning to Adelaide for another season makes me very happy. I’ve enjoyed my time with the Strikers and the amazing support we receive from Adelaide Oval’s supporters. Jamie Overton said, “I’m determined to help us push for finals and ultimately, the BBL title in BBL 15; it’s a fantastic club with a great bunch of lads.”
On Thursday, June 19, the international draft for the next BBL installment will take place. Selects Nos. 2, 10, 23, and 26 belong to the Strikers.
Cameron Boyce, Jordan Buckingham, Alex Carey, Thomas Kelly, Harry Nielsen, Jamie Overton, Lloyd Pope, Alex Ross, Jason Sangha, Matt Short, and Henry Thornton are the players that the Adelaide Strikers have signed as of May 29.
