[WATCH] IPL 2025: Digvesh Rathi runs out non-striker Jitesh Sharma, and Rishabh Pant withdraws his appeal

The RCB captain was well out of his crease when Digvesh broke the stumps at the non-striker’s end on the fourth delivery of the over. Jitesh, who had just struck his first IPL fifty with a massive six off a free hit, was trying to lead the team over the finish line when the incident occurred in the seventeenth over of RCB’s chase.

In Match 70 of the 2025 Indian Premier League, the captain of the Lucknow Super Giants, Rishabh Pant, received accolades for his decision to dismiss a non-striker run-out appeal against Jitesh Sharma of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru off the bowling of Digvesh Rathi. For RCB, who were hoping for a top-two finish to earn two chances to advance to the IPL final, the game was crucial.

The LSG captain stepped in and withdrew the appeal after Digvesh filed an appeal and the on-field umpires sent the call to the third umpire.

Jitesh was off of his ground, according to the third umpire, but he survived when Pant withdrew. When Not Out appeared on the large screen, Jitesh approached Pant and gave him a hug.

It’s interesting to note that the right-handed batter had been dismissed off a reverse sweep off the first ball of the same over, but Rathi’s foot touching the return crease caused it to emerge as a back-foot no-ball. The RCB captain survived while batting at 49 and reached his fifty with a six, proving that the no-ball was costly.

In the end, Jitesh and the valiant efforts of Mayank Agarwal enabled RCB to easily chase down the mark and secure their spot in Qualifier 1, where they will play Punjab Kings on May 29. With the victory, RCB also made IPL history by becoming the first club to win all seven away games in a single season.
