Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a budding batting sensation, was introduced by Steve Waugh. Speaking on ‘Australian Summer of Cricket 2025-26,’ the former Australia icon expressed his amazement at the way Vaibhav Suryavanshi hit the ball during his spectacular century against the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League in 2025.
Waugh said it was amazing that a 14-year-old could pull off such a knock. But he thought Vaibhav played freely and without pressure. He pondered how Vaibhav Suryavanshi would react if the price tag put pressure on him. Waugh thought it would be wonderful to see someone as young as Vaibhav Suryavanshi achieve success and wished Vaibhav luck.
“When I watched that century, I was astounded by how well he smacked the ball, how effortlessly he hit the sixes, and how at ease he was. It was wonderful to watch him play freely since, at 14, he had no idea what pressure was. Waugh stated in the JioHotstar interview, “I suppose the challenge for him will be to keep it under control.”
“Can he play the same way as he has this year, with the same openness and enthusiasm? That will be his task. You want to see someone like him succeed because he is very skilled, mentally tough, and has a fascinating past. The former ODI World Cup-winning skipper continued, “I think it’s a fantastic story for cricket and for me watching from a distance.”
Waugh commends Vaibhav Suryavanshi for his exceptional batting ability.
Additionally, Steve Waugh stated that the time Australia gets to watch the IPL is the reason he does not watch it very much. Waugh, on the other hand, lauded Vaibhav and said he would love to watch someone play a blinder like that.
“It’s definitely (in) the incorrect time of day, so I don’t get to watch many IPL games. He’s a great draw for the sport, though, because when someone like that shows up, you want to watch the game,” Waugh said.
