Shubman Gill will be the new captain of the Indian Test team for the forthcoming five-match England series, which was confirmed on May 24. In the red-ball format, this will make him the 37th player to captain the Indian squad.
The young star batter will face several obstacles, particularly when facing a formidable and seasoned England team. Shubman Gill discussed his thoughts on the series as well as the roles played by Indian cricket greats Rohit Sharma, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Virat Kohli in the success of the Indian side in Test matches.
The series will be difficult, Shubman Gill said as he wrapped up his remarks, but he was confident the team would be prepared for the task.
How can you win the game the best? We have a pattern from guys like Ashwin Bhai, Virat Bhai, and Rohit Bhai on how to win series and tour away from home. Yes, it’s one thing to be able to deliver and execute, but we know how to show up away from home and win series because we have that blueprint. When England visited India, I played in a five-test match series, which was also my favourite. And when you’re playing a five-Test match series, I believe there’s a different essence,” Shubman Gill stated in a BCCI video.
It’s lengthy and quite taxing on the body and mind. And since Test cricket pushes you in a variety of ways, I believe that’s the most thrilling component of the game. There are multiple dimensions to it. Red Ball cricket involves a lot more activities. And that’s what I find so fascinating about Red Ball cricket. And I hope that this will be a very exciting period for us. The new India Test captain said, “I think we’re ready for any challenge, but it won’t be easy.”
