According to reports, on May 24, India's new Test skipper and team for the England visit are expected to be revealed.
On Saturday, May 24, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is anticipated to reveal the team and new Test captain for India’s forthcoming tour to England. Following the selection committee meeting, the announcements are anticipated to be made at noon, and a press conference is also anticipated.

After experienced opener Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from Test cricket on 7 May, India is searching for a new red-ball captain. Jasprit Bumrah, Shubman Gill, and Rishabh Pant were among the names vying to replace the batter.

However, according to reports, the right-arm bowler, who just made a comeback to competitive cricket following a protracted injury break, is unlikely to play in all five Test matches because of workload management. He is thought to have chosen not to run for captain as a result.

Regarding the captaincy position, Gill and Pant allegedly had preliminary talks with the BCCI. Since Gill hasn’t confirmed his spot in the Test, one of the selectors allegedly expressed reservations about his experience in taking on the leadership role. The vice-captaincy responsibilities could yet be assigned to the 25-year-old.

The new World Test Championship (WTC) cycle will start with the England visit. Due to the retirement of Indian cricketing heavyweights Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravichandran Ashwin from Test matches, a number of important positions in the starting lineup are now vacant.

In addition, the India A squad will travel to England to play the England Lions in the games that are planned in Canterbury and Northampton. The India A squad’s last matchup will be against the senior Indian Test team. A number of players, including Karun Nair, Sai Sudharsan, and Ishan Kishan, are anticipated to be included in the options and will try to guarantee a berth in the Test squad.
