Fast bowler Trevor Gwandu was ruled out of the game due to a left groin strain, forcing Zimbabwe to make a change to their lineup for their one-off Test match against England next week. A replacement player, Tanaka Chivanga, has been brought on board.
Gwandu participated in the one-time Test match against Ireland and claimed three wickets in two innings, however he was not included in the most recent home or away Test matches against Bangladesh.
After recuperating from an injury he sustained during his second and most recent Test match, which he played against Ireland in Belfast last year, 31-year-old Chivanga, who made his Test debut against the West Indies in February 2023, is back in the national lineup.
A one-time, four-day Test match between Zimbabwe and England will begin on May 22 at Nottingham’s Trent Bridge. This is Zimbabwe’s first Test match on English soil in more than 20 years; the previous time they played was in 2003, during which the great James Anderson made his debut.
Brian Bennett, Ben Curran, Tanaka Chivanga, Clive Madande, Wessly Madhevere, Wellington Masakadza, Blessing Muzarabani, Richard Ngarava, Newman Nyamhuri, Victor Nyauchi, Sikandar Raza, Tafadzwa Tsiga, Nicholas Welch, and Sean Williams comprise the Zimbabwe Test team. Craig Ervine is the captain.
