The Dubai Capitals have formally announced their intention to play in the Guyana Global Super League (GSL), which is eagerly anticipated for 2025. The Guyana National Stadium in Providence will host 11 exciting Twenty20 matches during the annual T20 cricket competition, which is set to take place from July 10 to 18.
The Dubai Capitals bring a history of recent success into the GSL as the current International League T20 (ILT20) champions. After a great 2024 campaign in which they ended as runners-up, they won their first ILT20 championship earlier this year with a resounding victory over the Desert Vipers in the final.
GMR Sports, the sports arm of the GMR Group, a significant player in the global sports and infrastructure scene, is the owner of the Dubai Capitals team. GMR Sports has been instrumental in promoting the franchise cricket model globally, with a strong cricketing presence in India, the United Arab Emirates, the United States, and the United Kingdom. Their participation in the GSL demonstrates their dedication to broadening the game’s audience and advancing its development internationally.
This year’s GSL, which is rapidly forming into one of the most intriguing events on the cricket calendar, gains significant prestige and competitive depth with the addition of the Dubai Capitals.
“We look forward to welcoming the Dubai Capitals to Guyana for this year’s GSL,” said Sir Clive Lloyd, Chairman of the Guyana Global Super League, as he greeted the squad. Their status as ILT20 champions speaks for itself, and their presence will surely improve the calibre and spectacle of the available game. We have no doubt that the team and their fans will take advantage of the lively environment and warm hospitality that Guyana has to offer.
The CEO of GMR Sports, Satyam Trivedi, expressed his excitement at the Dubai Capitals’ participation on yet another esteemed international stage. The goal of GMR Sports’ franchise cricket journey has always been to develop talent and use the power of sport to create cross-cultural connections. We are really delighted to be a part of the Guyana Global Super League, which is an amazing chance to promote international relationships and showcase elite cricket.”
The 2025 GSL looks to be a vibrant display of top cricket skill and a celebration of cultures, with international teams, top players, and passionate supporters anticipated to gather in Guyana.
The Central Stags from New Zealand, the Guyana Amazon Warriors from the West Indies, the Hobart Hurricanes from Australia, and the Rangpur Riders from Bangladesh will all play in the 2025 GSL in addition to the Dubai Capitals.
