CAB presents Met department reports and asks BCCI for the privilege to host the IPL final.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has received a formal request from the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) to reevaluate Eden Gardens in Kolkata as the location of the 2025 IPL final. Due to geopolitical concerns, the competition was halted for nine days, and Eden Gardens lost the chance to host the grand championship on May 25. The final was later moved to June 3, which caused the BCCI to reevaluate the summit clash’s location because to rain forecasts.

The BCCI declared that six locations—Delhi, Jaipur, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, and Bengaluru—would host the remaining league-stage games after the suspension. Kolkata was excluded because of possible weather issues, even though the playoff locations have not yet been decided.

Following the announcement of the location, CAB requested an official weather forecast for June 3 from the Regional Meteorological Centre in Kolkata. The Met Office did clarify, though, that a trustworthy weather forecast would only be feasible closer to May 25 and that accurate projections cannot be issued thus far in advance.

We have turned in the required paperwork: CAB

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) in Delhi was contacted by the CAB as well, but they received a similar response stating that all documentation had been sent to the BCCI. According to CAB officials, it is unjust to exclude Eden Gardens due to uncertain weather.

“We have done an excellent job of planning everything, so we are still sure that everything will work out. “We have submitted all official documents to this effect, and you can’t predict weather patterns so early,” the CAB stated in a statement.

Given the decreased likelihood of rains in the city, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is now the front-runner to host the final and Qualifier 2, according to a Cricbuzz report. Despite early June weather fears, Mumbai is also being considered for the other playoff games. Before deciding on the playoff locations, the board is keeping an eye on predictions for each of the cities that made the short list.

The association feels that the BCCI has the final say in the matter. Kolkata might be compensated with important games like the semi-final or final of the ICC T20 World Cup in February–March 2026, though, if it is denied the opportunity to host this season.
