Leading international players Jos Buttler and Gerald Coetzee are expected to return to the Gujarat Titans (GT) on May 14, giving them a significant boost ahead of the IPL 2025 restart.
After a week-long break owing to escalating cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan, the Indian Premier League is set to resume on May 17.
After a significant security incident during the Punjab Kings vs. Delhi Capitals game in Dharamshala on May 9, the IPL was put on hold. The BCCI had to send players and staff back to Delhi on a special Vande Bharat train after the game was halted in the middle of innings for the reasons outlined above. The league is prepared to resume after reaching a ceasefire deal. On May 10, the Gujarat Titans held a three-hour training session at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, becoming the first team to restart training.
On May 18, GT will play DC.
The only two foreign GT players to return home during the break were South African speedster Coetzee and England hitter Butter. GT will have their entire overseas team available for the rest of the season after their return on May 14. During the suspension, several international celebrities like Karim Janat, Sherfane Rutherford, Rashid Khan, and Kagiso Rabada stayed in India.
Sherfane Rutherford has been selected for the West Indies team for an ODI series in England from May 29 to June 3, which falls within the IPL playoffs, so it is unclear if he will be available for the playoffs.
With 16 points from 11 games, the Shubman Gill-led team leads the IPL 2025 points table and is well-positioned to earn a postseason berth. Buttler (500), Gill (508), and Sai Sudharsan (509 runs) are all vying for the Orange Cap.
With 20 wickets, bowler Prasidh Krishna is leading the Purple Cap race. Mohammed Siraj (15) and Sai Kishore (14), in close pursuit, are next in line. After playing the Delhi Capitals in Delhi on May 18, they will play the Lucknow Super Giants at home in Ahmedabad on May 22 and the Chennai Super Kings in Ahmedabad on May 25.
