Due to growing border tensions between India and Pakistan, the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 was temporarily suspended and is scheduled to resume on May 17. Whether the postponed match between the Delhi Capitals (DC) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) would be replayed or cancelled was one of the main questions that many people had during the break. The full replay of the match has been confirmed by the BCCI.
After just 10.1 overs, the May 8 match between PBKS and DC in Dharamsala was called off, with Punjab’s scorecard reading 122/1. Due to an unexpected outage and safety concerns brought on by air raid alarms in neighbouring districts, the game was abruptly discontinued. As a result, players and spectators had to be evacuated immediately, and the game was called off in the middle.
Update on the IPL 2025 restart
The BCCI cited player safety and national security concerns as justifications for a one-week IPL 2025 suspension in the wake of this occurrence. Following a ceasefire agreement between the two nations, the BCCI said that the IPL 2025 would resume. Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will play each other in Bengaluru on May 17 to kick off the season. With the final set for June 3, the competition will now take place in six different locations: Bengaluru, Delhi, Lucknow, Jaipur, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad.
What becomes of the postponed PBKS vs. DC game?
Regarding the PBKS vs. DC game, it has been moved from Dharamsala to Jaipur and is now set for May 24. Crucially, the game will be repeated from the start rather than continuing from where it ended (10.1 overs).
It’s interesting to note that neither team received a point for the match’s abandonment, nor were points divided after the updated schedule was released. Both teams would normally receive one point each in a no-result game. But since the BCCI decided to play the game again, there were no points listed on the table. Arshdeep Singh, a pacer with the PBKS, verified the replay in his Snapchat video as well.
“The location is different. The game will begin at the beginning. We’re hoping to reach 120 in 10 (122/1 in 10.1). We lost one wicket; we won’t lose a single one this time,” he declared.
