Rajat Patidar, the captain of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), is presently recuperating from a finger injury that would have prevented him from playing in a few games if the IPL 2025 had gone according to plan. However, because of cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan, the 18th edition of the IPL was halted for a week. This allowed the batter enough time to recuperate without missing any games.
On May 3, the right-handed batter suffered the injury while playing at home against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). To safeguard the finger, the top-order hitter was forced to wear a splint and skip at least ten days of training.
Since the 31-year-old is included in the squad for the forthcoming India A tour of England, RCB is still concerned about his recuperation. The right-hander felt confident about playing the rest of the IPL season after returning to Bengaluru from Lucknow.
Before the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) stopped the IPL on May 8, RCB relied on Jitesh Sharma to captain the squad against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Friday due to the injury to the Indore-born cricketer.
“I was really appreciative of the chance that was provided to me. I was given the chance to captain the RCB, which is a huge deal for my family and me. It was a tremendous burden to replace Devdutt [Padikkal] and Rajat, therefore I was considering what the best combination would be,” Jitesh stated on RCB Bold Diaries.
“And we would have won this game based on where we were on the points table. I was thinking about all of this, as well as the batting order, conversations with bowlers, and meetings with coaches and players during those two to three days. “I had a good time,” he continued.
The coaching staff and all of RCB’s foreign players had already departed India, but they were urged to wait in case the competition resumed. With three games left, RCB is in second place in the standings with 16 points.
