Hardly anyone has played cricket the way he has – Kapil Dev praises Rohit Sharma following his Test retirement announcement

In a recent interview, former India captain Kapil Dev commended Rohit’s leadership and batting abilities. Few cricket players played the game like the 38-year-old, according to the Haryana Hurricane, who complimented him on his outstanding career.

On Wednesday, May 7, Rohit Sharma announced the end of his Test career. At an average of 40.58, he amassed 4,301 runs over his 67 Test matches for India. In 24 Test matches as India’s captain, the Mumbai batter won 12, lost 9, and drew 3. India advanced to the 2023 World Test Championship (WTC) final under his direction.

“He played excellent cricket and did a fantastic job. Over time, the way he played cricket, the way he led, and, most importantly, the way he handled himself—because not many people in India have played cricket like this. India Today cited Dev as stating, “I congratulate him on a wonderful career.”

Selectors should be in charge of the following: Kapil Dev

Only a few weeks before the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) selection committee meets to choose the team for the five-match Test series in England, which starts on June 20, Rohit Sharma announced his intention to retire from the longest format. A new WTC cycle will begin as a result.

Rohit will continue to captain India in the ODI format even if he won’t be involved in this assignment. In a recent interview, Dinesh Lad, his boyhood coach, stated that the opening batsman aspires to lead India to victory in the 2027 ODI World Cup.

Dev thinks the selectors should make the final decision over Rohit’s spot in the squad, even if he valued his willingness to participate and win the World Cup.

“Everyone wants to play cricket, including Gavaskar and Sachin. However, once more, this is dependent on the selectors. He wants to play, which is wonderful. Everyone wants to compete in and win the World Cup, but the selectors should have some discretion,” Dev continued.
