Aakash Chopra, a former opener for India, has blasted KL Rahul and the Delhi Capitals (DC) for yet another subpar batting display that has hurt their prospects of making the playoffs. Although DC may have gained a point from their rain-soaked match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), their lacklustre batting performance has raised concerns as the IPL 2025 draws to a close.
Despite sitting fifth in the standings with 13 points from 11 games, the Capitals have now lost three of their previous five games, and their batting problems have put their hopes of finishing in the top four in jeopardy. Before Tristan Stubbs and Ashutosh Sharma took over as crisis managers and helped DC post 133/7 in a rain-affected match on Tuesday, they were struggling at 29/5.
Aakash cited the performances of Rahul, Faf du Plessis, Karun Nair, and Jake Fraser-McGurk as examples of DC’s struggling batting order. In addition to lacking stability, DC’s top order has fallen under pressure much too frequently, according to Chopra.
“You’re not hitting well. Your trust in Jake Fraser-McGurk was eroded. Barely has Faf du Plessis played a knock or two. One knock has been played by Karun Nair. Two-and-a-half knocks have been played by Abishek Porel. A few knocks have been played by KL Rahul. He’s lost his temper, though. Then came Axar Patel, Tristan Stubbs, Vipraj Nigam, and Ashutosh Sharma. On his YouTube channel, Chopra stated, “You weren’t supposed to play a punt on them.
Additionally, Aakash Chopra, made fun of DC’s management for failing to announce a replacement for Harry Brook, who pulled out prior to the competition.
“Where is Brook’s replacement? They haven’t taken one, and if they don’t take it within the next two days, they won’t receive it as effectively. For them, that story is over,” he continued.
