Litton Das will captain the squad in Twenty20 Internationals until the next World Cup, the Bangladesh Cricket Board said on Sunday, May 4. Given his busy schedule as national captain across formats, Najmul Hossain Shanto opted to resign as captain of the T20Is, leaving the position open. Litton Das will guide the team in the vital lead-up to the international tournament. Litton Das led the team to victory in the three-match T20I series in the West Indies.
A 16-man team for the forthcoming T20I series against Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates was also revealed by the BCB. Litton’s first assignment as a full-time T20I skipper will be this one.
According to BCB cricket operation head Najmul Abedin, Litton was selected with a long-term strategy in mind. “Until the T20 World Cup the following year, Litton Das will captain the team. There aren’t many seasoned players in the current configuration. Although his form was discussed, we think he has the potential. He will be a valuable member of the team if he can manage his game.
Experience has played a significant role for Litton Das.
Along with announcing a phase of experimentation and change, Fahim also stated that Mahedi Hasan has been selected as the vice captain for the upcoming two T20I series. “In this style, Mahedi is practically a given. We noticed his tactical awareness. However, this job is only for two series and is not permanent. Under the direction of the current captain, we hope to develop a future one,” he stated.
The board is trying to come up with a long-term solution for Test and ODI captaincy, Najmul added. “The ODI and Test captains will be announced shortly. The hoover needs to be filled. Although we could name the captain a week prior to test matches, which may take place in two to two and a half months, leadership is a full-time function.
Gazi Ashraf Hossain, the chief selector, adding that Litton must take the initiative because Bangladesh is going through a transitional phase and many senior cricket players are no longer playing for the country.
Before deciding on the team, we always consult with the coaches and captain. We didn’t have much time, though, and the decision was made late this time. Nevertheless, Ashraf stated that the selections and coaching panel collaborated.
“We will play the Asia Cup and bilateral series against India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka prior to the World Cup. There will be many opportunities to try new things. He stated, “We want to enter the tournament as a performing team, and Litton will be crucial to that.” Litton Das is anticipated to bat at number three in the T20 squad, a position that requires both aggression and solidity.
“I predict that he will bat at three. The team will work to get him ready for the effect that that role requires,” he stated. “Litton Das must do well now that he has the additional duty of captain. He has been the focus of special plans from opponents. We hope things can be resolved under the direction of the new coach. However, in the end, the player bears accountability.
