During the 52nd IPL 2025 match between RCB and CSK, Stephen Fleming discussed Dewald Brevis and Ravindra Jadeja’s postponed DRS call. Instead of speaking for Brevis and Jadeja, the head coach of CSK offered his viewpoint.
According to Stephen Fleming, it was a pivotal moment that could have altered the outcome of the match.
Stephen Fleming acknowledged that the batters’ attention was diverted from the on-field umpire’s call by their concentration on the ball moving towards the boundary. The timer ran out because he felt like a lot of time was wasted for the same reason. In addition, the CSK coach noted that the game had many unexpected turns.
“Yes, that was a significant occasion. Talking with Brevis and Jaddu [Jadeja] involved a lot of running right away. I believe they went to the boundary for four after seeing the ball ricochet. Whether Brevis took the review in time was also lost in that. The answer to that is unknown to me. According to ESPNCricinfo, Fleming stated, “Given that they were running at the time, he wasn’t sure.”
“I know the timer starts as soon as you’re handed out. In the umpire’s opinion, they ran out of time, but there was also a significant amount of time consumed by the action that was still in progress. On the other hand, we wouldn’t have received the runs since he was given out. It wouldn’t have given us the five runs, which would have been wonderful, but we would have kept the wicket. But in a big game, this is a significant moment. All the way through, there were turns and twists,” the CSK coach said.
Brevis and Jadeja surpass the 15-second review timer, causing CSK to miss the DRS opportunity.
Interestingly, the IPL allows a batter to review an on-field umpire’s decision within 15 seconds of the ball becoming dead. Brevis and Jadeja took 25.2 seconds, which is more than 10 seconds according to the timer’s guideline, which is unfortunate for CSK.
