The Uttar Pradesh bowler received a lot of accolades from RCB batting coach Dinesh Karthik. He thought that defending those many runs was a really tough challenge for the bowler, and in the end, it was a fantastic effort. Karthik also praised Dayal’s diligence and emphasised how careful the bowler is with his preparation.
Match 52 between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), which took place at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday, May 3, was highly anticipated, and it lived up to the expectations. Although there was a chance of rain in the days before, it really rained on the day, causing runs on both sides.
After winning the toss, CSK put RCB in. Romario Shepherd’s explosive 53 off 14 balls and Virat Kohli’s 62 helped the home team reach a respectable 213. CSK had a strong start to the powerplay but had a few setbacks. It appeared as though Ayush Mhatre (94 off 48) and Ravindra Jadeja (77* off 45) would lead CSK home. However, there were surprises ahead, as CSK needed to score 15 runs in the final over to win their third game of the year.
The task of bowling the crucial over fell to RCB pacer Yash Dayal, and the left-armer did not let anyone down. Only two runs were scored by CSK off the first two balls as he bowled two complete tosses on the middle and leg. He bowled another low full delivery, trapping MS Dhoni leg before, with 13 runs needed off four balls.
Shivam Dube hit the next ball into the stands over deep midwicket with a high full toss. It was a no-ball for height, which made matters worse. The entire equation shifted, and CSK had a good chance of winning. The home side won by two runs after Dayal recovered strongly and gave up just singles off the final three balls.
We were aware that stopping them from scoring with the runs left in the final over would need a tremendous amount of work. However, Yash being Yash, his performance was exceptional. It was a great team effort, in my opinion. After the game, Dinesh Karthik told the announcers, “We’re really happy with how it transpired today. Sometimes these kinds of games really uplift the mood.”
“The young cricket players’ dedication to their sport is evident in the amount of work they put in behind the scenes. Once again, Yash is a really hard worker. He brings a paper to bowling meetings, writes down everything, and then tries to put it into practice on the pitch’, Karthik continued.
Dinesh Karthik: Dayal always knows what to do
In addition, Karthik discussed Dayal’s execution and disclosed that he never hesitates to put in effort.
Indeed, there may be ups and downs in the execution with him. However, the one benefit of his work is that you get more, not less. Whatever he does, he always knows it. And he feels really proud of himself when he can deliver his yorkers. He has a unique skill, which is one of the reasons we kept him on board. Additionally, he has a strong ability to manage pressure. He completed the same game for us a year ago. And he did a good job for us today as well,” Karthik said.
