Piyush Chawla, a former spinner for India, discussed the Mumbai Indians’ decisive 54-run victory over the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 27 at the Wankhede Stadium. Chawla emphasised the Mumbai team’s wealth of game-winners and said that rival teams should be cautious of the five-time champions since the slow starters are starting to click. Interestingly, after dropping four of their first five games, Hardik Pandya and company have now won five consecutive games.
“You start at number one and work your way up to number eleven if you look at how many match winners the Mumbai Indians have in their lineup. Rohit Sharma’s performance in the previous two games is well known, as is Ryan Rickelton’s knock from today. Will Jacks, who replaced Bumrah with the ball today, took those two vital wickets. Therefore, I believe that everything is coming together; whatever Hardik does, it benefits the team, and that is the main goal of this squad,” Chawla stated on Jio Hotstar.
“That playing XI has a tonne of match winners. Jasprit Bumrah entered the game today as an impact player, and what an impact he has had! This is the reason this team is winning, and when the Mumbai Indians are winning, all other teams should be afraid of them,” the former spinner continued.
You must give Krunal Pandya and Virat Kohli credit: Piyush Chawla
The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) avenged their defeat at home against the Delhi Capitals earlier in the season with a six-wicket victory at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in the double header on Sunday, April 27.
Despite being under duress after losing early wickets in the powerplay, RCB managed to chase down a challenging 163-run mark. Player of the Match Virat Kohli (51 off 47) and Krunal Pandya (unbeaten 73 off 47) were credited by Chawla for setting up the chase, as their century-long partnership enabled RCB rally from 26 for 3 to 145 for 4. They now lead the points table with 14 points after their victory.
“You have to give the squad credit for their outstanding cricket performance, RCB. We witnessed what Bhuvi (Bhuvneshwar Kumar) can do with the old ball as well because you mentioned their bowling and batting. Taking those important wickets in those two overs was very important. And you have to give Virat Kohli and Krunal Pandya credit for how they orchestrated that connection when it comes to chasing on a challenging surface, Chawla stated.
They were under a lot of strain at one point, but they persisted in taking it seriously. In particular, Krunal Pandya, who ensured that the necessary run rate remained within control by taking calculated chances and making huge smashes when necessary. The 2011 World Cup champion concluded, “The team is looking really good, and the way they’re playing, everything is helping the cause, which is why they’re winning everything away from home.”
