Head coach Stephen Fleming addressed the media following the defeat and commended CSK rookie Dewald Brevis for his incredible performance of 42 runs off of 25 balls. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the five-time IPL champions, lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by five wickets on April 25 and are all but eliminated from the competition. This was CSK’s fourth straight defeat at their home stadium, Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium.
Kamindu Mendis’ spectacular grab, a flying full-length dive at long-off, led to the young batter’s dismissal. Fleming said that CSK was the victims of a “match-winning” catch, and everyone was in awe of the efforts. The middle order fell apart like a deck of cards after Brevis was removed.
“I felt Brevis was excellent. “We most likely fell victim to a catch that won the game,” Stephen Fleming stated.
Even though CSK scored 154 runs, it wasn’t enough to win the game. The Super Kings are experiencing serious problems with their batting lineup this season. They have made a number of adjustments, but they still haven’t identified the team’s problems. This is the first time the club has appeared this weak in the league’s existence, following the 2020 and 2022 seasons.
That’s what we need in the middle order: MS Dhoni
The captain of CSK, MS Dhoni, commended the rookie for his outstanding batting display during the game. After smashing three sixes against Kamindu Mendis, he regained his groove after struggling in the middle and reaching 17 off 17. Dhoni disclosed their weak points and expressed their desire to make amends for past errors.
“We need someone like Brevis in the middle order, and he batted pretty well. We have had some difficulty when the spinners enter the game. At that point, we must either try to play the huge shot once in your region or pick up your scoring areas. That, in my opinion, is where we have fallen short. During the post-match presentation, MS Dhoni stated, “We haven’t been able to dominate or get runs against the spinners at a good pace in the middle.”
